Knowledge Transfer

JGU sees knowledge transfer and strengthening the dialogue between science and society as a central task. The transfer unit coordinates and organises various formats of knowledge transfer and science communication for researchers at all career levels.

Mainz Science Alliance

JGU is a founding member of the Mainz Science Alliance. As part of the city's campaign on science and research Wissen im Herzen, the alliance offers different formats to inform and excite people about research made in Mainz, ranging from the annual Science Market to pints of Science ('Science Schoppe') in bars and cafés and the 'Science Sofa' for open air talks.

Science Slams

The objective is to present your research on stage as briefly, concisely and entertainingly as possible in competition with others. JGU organizes Science Slams on a regular basis and in co-operation with various partners like JGU's university alliance FORTHEM.

Mercator Science-Policy Fellowship Programme

The programme consists of dialogue formats between senior professionals from politics, the public sector, media and civil society with researchers from Rhine-Main Universities.

FORTHEM

The FORTHEM Academy for Early-Stage Researchers offers a variety of tailored training measures and support for ESRs, also in the field of Science Communication:

  • Within the framework of the FORTHEM Online Journal (ro be published in February 2024), ESRs can showcase their research results with podcasts and videos such as 'My thesis in a nutshell'.
  • Science Slams
  • “Young researcher's prize” for Open Science / Citizen Science projects
